RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS - The Code 2026

OUR COMMITMENT

John XXIII College is committed to creating a safe, inclusive and respectful community. We believe every student has the right to feel safe, valued and supported, and we actively promote a culture of dignity, care and responsibility.

What it means to have respectful relationships

Respectful relationships at John’s are built on trust, clear communication and mutual respect. This includes understanding consent, respecting personal boundaries, valuing diversity, and treating one another with kindness and consideration.

As a residential and academic community, we set a high standard of excellence for all members, both students and staff.

Statement by Board Chairman, Mr John Harris on the implementation of The Code, 1st January 2026.

‘John XXIII College embraces fully the opportunities that have been created through the implementation of the Code. We believe that the College is well placed to comply with Code accountabilities, as an affirmation of what we already do. Although, of equal importance, by evolving to meet the specific requirements, as are presented in both our Prevention and Response Plan and in our updated Policies and Procedures more broadly. The College aspires to achieve gender equality and inclusive, safe, and respectful relationships in all we do.’

Bronwen Whiting, John XXIII College Board Member (ANU Representative)

'John XXII College is committed to achieving a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for all members of the community. The Prevention and Response Plans and updated Policies and Procedures outline the ways in which the College tries to create such an environment, as well as how it complies with the Code. Work on these documents has presented an opportunity to evaluate and ensure continuous improvement in this area, with collaboration of staff, students and board members.'
