A Welcome from the Head of College

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the John XXIII College website. I hope these pages offer a genuine sense of who we are, what we value, and the inclusive community we hold so dearly. At the same time, I warmly encourage you to visit us in person and experience for yourself why Johns is truly a home away from home for all who are part of our College.

Founded by the Dominican Order in 1967, the College remains proudly owned by the Dominicans today. As a Catholic college, we are grateful for our rich heritage while remaining forward-looking and aspirational. Johns offers not only an outstanding student experience, but also a lifelong sense of belonging through the vibrant network of alumni, families, and friends who remain deeply connected to our community.

Our College is supported by a dedicated team of almost 50 staff who believe strongly in the value of student experience and wellbeing. Together, they support over 320 students from across Australia and around the world who proudly call Johns their home. Leadership is also at the heart of College life, with more than 50 student leaders serving across diverse portfolios to ensure that every resident can make the most of their Johns journey - no matter their interests, passions, challenges, or beliefs.

Johns is an egalitarian community where everyone is embraced equally and given the space to shine. We are committed to ensuring that all students feel safe, supported, and connected. What makes Johns unique is not just the academic excellence of our students, but the way they combine their personal aspirations with a deep investment in the wellbeing of others.

I invite you to talk to our current students, families, and remarkable staff to hear firsthand why they value this community so deeply. This, I believe, is the most authentic expression of what makes Johns special. Each day, I feel blessed to share in their commitment and walk alongside them.

I encourage you to come and see for yourself why Johns is a community of care, aspiration, and belonging.

With best wishes,
Jas Lincoln

Identity with integrity forms the foundation of the College’s coat of arms. Did you know that:

  • Features of Pope John XXIII’s shield are incorporated
  • The De Guzman and Aza crosses are drawn from heraldic devices of the family of St. Dominic
  • The blue and white colours reflect the College’s proximity to Sullivan’s Creek

There have been many ‘firsts’ since the College’s inception including the first Inter-Hall sporting competition taking victory over Bruce Hall in 1967. Women were admitted to College as residents in 1976. The first issue of the College’s student magazine Pontifex was produced in 1978, and the Inward Bound (IB) Inter-Hall Trophy found a new home at Johns in 1980!

The College continues many of our founding traditions, but more importantly continues to provide a collegiate environment where not only academics is fostered, but character nurtured.
