Choosing where to live is a big part of starting your university journey. At John XXIII College, we’re proud to offer a welcoming, values-led community where students are supported to grow, connect, and thrive.
Each year, we receive a high volume of applications from students across Australia and the world. Our application process is straightforward, but places are limited - so we encourage early applications.
How to Apply
1. Online Application
Applications for John XXIII College are submitted through the
ANU Accommodation Portal. Simply list John XXIII as your preferred residence. Applications typically open early March for the following academic year. For Non-ANU students (University of Canberra, UNSW Canberra, Australian Catholic University, Open Universities)

2. Application Requirements
- Personal Details: Basic information including academic background and contact info.
- Personal Statement: Share your interests, values, and why you’d like to join our community.
- References (if requested): You may be asked to provide a reference from a teacher, employer or mentor.
- If you are a school student a teacher is the preferred referee.
3. Selection Process
We’re looking for students who are committed to academic excellence, leadership, service and community contribution. Your extracurricular activities, achievements, and character are all considered.
4. Offer and Acceptance
If your application is successful, you’ll receive a formal offer via email. You’ll need to accept within the timeframe provided, and a deposit or acceptance fee may be required to confirm your place.
5. Moving In and Orientation
Once confirmed, you’ll receive details about move-in dates, our Introduction (N-Week) and Orientation Week program, and community expectations. Orientation includes social activities, academic and life skills workshops, and introductions to staff and fellow students to help you settle in.

- Early applications are strongly encouraged - spaces fill quickly.
- International and postgraduate students are welcome, with some specific considerations.
