  • Do I have to be an ANU student to live at John XXIII College?

    No. While John XXIII College is located on the ANU campus, we also proudly support students from other Canberra-based universities, including the University of Canberra, UNSW Canberra, Australian Catholic University, and Open Universities Australia. If you're studying at one of these institutions and are looking for a vibrant residential community, you're welcome to apply.

  • Can I apply for accommodation at John XXIII College directly?

    Yes you can apply directly:

    • Go to APPLY NOW to make your application. All applications go directly to the College Admissions Officer who will contact you about next steps once your application form is completed and references received.
    • FOR ANU APPLICANTS ONLY you must also go to the ANU Accommodation Portal, available at the ANU website and submit an additional application where you choose John XXIII College as your accommodation preference. 
  • What is the difference between an academic offer and an accommodation offer?

    An academic offer is an offer of study from ANU Admissions. An accommodation offer is a separate offer for a place in a residential hall or college, issued by ANU Accommodation Services. You must have an academic offer to accept an accommodation offer. 

  • When can I apply?

    Applications for 2026 are open now.


    ANU Accomodation Portal:

    Application dates for both Semester 1 and Semester 2 are published on the ANU Accommodation website. We recommend applying early as demand is high.


    Enquiries are open all year round.

  • Does ANU guarantee accommodation?

    Yes, ANU offers guaranteed accommodation to eligible first-year students. However, this guarantee does not extend to your preferred residence. Please check the ANU Accommodation site for eligibility criteria.

  • I applied for John XXIII College through the ASA Early Entry process but didn’t get in. Can I reapply?

    Yes. ANU Accommodation offers a Change of Preference process after ASA offers are made. Follow the steps in your ASA offer or contact ANU Accommodation for further guidance.

  • If I defer my studies after receiving an offer from John XXIII College, is my place automatically held?

    No. You will need to reapply for accommodation in your new year of entry. Each application round is assessed on its own merit to maintain the College’s dynamic and diverse community.

  • I currently live in another ANU residence but want to transfer to John XXIII College. What do I do?

    You’ll need to apply through the inter-hall transfer process managed by ANU Accommodation. Transfer rounds are offered throughout the year, check with ANU Accommodation Services for the next available round.

  • Does John XXIII College offer financial assistance?

    Yes. We offer bursaries and scholarships for both new and continuing residents to support students who may require financial assistance. Visit our Financial Support page for full details.

  • How do I accept my offer from John XXIII College?

    You’ll receive instructions via email. Offers are accepted online, usually with a deposit payable by credit card. Once accepted, you’ll receive your Statement of Account with further payment details.

  • What are the payment options for my accommodation fees?

  • What should I write in my personal statement?

    Tell us about who you are - your interests, experiences, and what draws you to life in a collegiate community. We’re particularly interested in what you hope to contribute to and gain from the John XXIII College experience.

  • Do I need to be Catholic to live at John XXIII College?

    No. While John XXIII College is a Catholic residential college and promotes Christian values, students of all faiths and backgrounds are welcomed and respected. No religious affiliation is required to apply.

  • What makes John XXIII College different from other ANU residences?

    John XXIII College offers a fully catered experience with our own in-house chef team, unique leadership and community programs, 24/7 support, and a room that’s yours year-round - including mid-semester and term breaks.
