Anna Reynolds
Lord Mayor of Hobart, Councillor Anna Reynolds
1985
Anna Reynolds has served as Lord Mayor of Hobart since 2018, guiding the city through a period of significant change and positioning it as one of the world’s most liveable and vibrant small cities. She came to the Australian National University and John XXIII College in 1985 after growing up in tropical North Queensland, beginning a lifelong commitment to community leadership and public service.
Anna’s early career focused on community development and advocacy. She began by running arts training programs in Aboriginal communities across New South Wales and Queensland, before establishing a region-wide community legal centre in Cairns. She later moved into national and international policy roles, including founding Climate Action Network Australia in 1998, the country’s first climate change policy NGO. Her work also included leading the Australian Conservation Foundation’s Federal Parliament Liaison Office, serving as Deputy Director of WWF International’s Global Climate Change Program, and working as Chief Executive Officer of the Multicultural Council of Tasmania.
Through these roles Anna has consistently focused on strengthening communities, advancing environmental policy and promoting inclusion. As Lord Mayor she continues to champion a vision for Hobart that balances environmental responsibility, cultural vitality and community wellbeing. She lives in Hobart with her partner Mark and is the mother of two children, Jess and Jarra.
