1980 - 1983

Christine McLoughlin AM is one of Australia’s most respected business leaders, with more than three decades of experience shaping governance and leadership across major corporations and national institutions. She lived at John XXIII College from 1980 to 1983 while studying Arts and Law (Honours) at the Australian National University, beginning a career that would span financial services, infrastructure, health and telecommunications.

Christine has served as a non-executive director across numerous ASX 50 companies, guiding organisations through periods of transformation, innovation and significant regulatory change. She was Chairman of Suncorp Group for a decade, leading the company through a major simplification program that included the sale of Suncorp Bank while strengthening customer experience within a highly regulated financial services environment. She currently serves as Chair of Aware Super, one of Australia’s largest profit-for-members superannuation funds, and as a Director of Cochlear Limited, contributing to the advancement of hearing technologies that improve lives worldwide. Her work also focuses on contemporary governance challenges including cyber risk, artificial intelligence and the transition to net zero.

Beyond corporate leadership, Christine has long been a champion of education and opportunity. As the first in her family to attend university, she has served as Deputy Chair of The Smith Family and as Chancellor of the University of Wollongong, guiding the institution through the COVID-19 pandemic. She also co-founded and chairs the Minerva Network, which mentors professional women athletes across Australia. In recognition of her contributions to business, community and women’s leadership, she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2021.
