Dimity Brassil

1997 - 1999

Dimity Brassil has built a career dedicated to capturing and preserving the stories that shape people’s lives. Raised in Wagga Wagga, she studied Arts at the Australian National University and lived at John XXIII College from 1997 to 1999, where she formed friendships that remain among her closest today.

After graduating, Dimity worked as a financial services editor, adult educator and professional writer before establishing A Lasting Tale, a business dedicated to preserving family histories through recorded audio memoirs. The idea grew from her realisation that the sound of a person’s voice is often the first thing people forget after a loved one passes away. Through interviews, guided questions, workshops and a mobile platform, Dimity and her team of journalists have recorded more than 1,800 life stories of Australians, preserving the voices and memories of everyday people for future generations.

Now based in Albury, Dimity continues to focus on storytelling that honours the lives of ordinary Australians. Her work reflects a belief that careful listening and thoughtful questions can reveal the extraordinary within everyday experiences, particularly within regional communities whose stories are often overlooked.

Quote
"Whatever your labours and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy."
