Harriet Joseph
(nee McCardell)
2000 - 2002
Harriett Joseph (McCardell) has built a career across sport, media and major events, combining communications expertise with a passion for storytelling and live experiences. She lived at John XXIII College from 2000 to 2002 while studying Sports Administration at the University of Canberra, majoring in Public Relations. During her time at Johns she immersed herself in college life, taking on roles including Sports Representative and Residential Tutor, and forming friendships that remain central to her life today.
After graduating, Harriett began her career in Canberra with the ACT Brumbies before moving to Queensland to coordinate events for Australian University Sport. A move to Sydney opened opportunities within communications agencies, where she worked across major national and international campaigns and events. Her work has included projects connected with the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, NRL and NRLW initiatives, AFL and Ashes campaigns, the London Olympics, City2Surf, and a wide range of arts and cultural events including music festivals, writers’ festivals, the Australian Ballet Awards, Open Air Cinema and the 100 Women of Influence Awards.
Since 2014, Harriett has led public relations for Magic Millions, Australasia’s premier thoroughbred auction house and racing carnival on the Gold Coast. She has helped shape the profile of the internationally recognised event, which brings together yearling sales, racing, polo, showjumping and major industry celebrations. Alongside her professional work she serves on the committee of the Torie Finnane Foundation, supporting regional midwives and maternity services. Now based in Orange, NSW, she balances her career with family life, often found on the sidelines supporting her two sons’ sporting pursuits.
