Isha Caulfield

2006 - 2007

Criminal defence lawyer Isha Caulfield has built her career representing some of the most vulnerable people within the justice system. She lived at John XXIII College from 2006 to 2007 while studying at the Australian National University, beginning the path toward a legal career grounded in advocacy and service.

Isha has worked with Aboriginal Legal Services across several regions of Australia, including on Wiradjuri Country in Western New South Wales, Gadigal land in Redfern, and with communities on Arrernte Country in Alice Springs. Sitting with clients in the red dirt of Yuendumu or in a police cell in Tennant Creek crystallised her commitment to serve people who have experienced deep disadvantage and adversity. Through this work she has represented individuals navigating complex legal and social challenges and witnessed first-hand the inequalities that shape many interactions with the justice system. She is now a NSW Law Society Accredited Specialist in Criminal Law, with a particular focus on children’s criminal defence, and serves on the NSW Law Society Children’s Legal Issues Committee, advocating for legal reform affecting young people.

Throughout her career Isha has remained motivated by the courage and resilience of the people she represents. Her work reflects a deep commitment to ensuring that individuals facing racism, displacement, social exclusion and economic disadvantage have a strong and compassionate voice within the justice system.
