Jacinta Carroll
1988 - 1991
Arriving from Forbes, New South Wales, 18-year-old Jacinta Carroll came to university with a simple ambition: to learn, to contribute and to make a difference. She lived at John XXIII College from 1988 to 1991, where the College became a formative home shaped by friendship, challenge and opportunity. During her time at Johns she was an Academic Tutor and Senior Resident, competed in Inward Bound, and was a long-standing member and later captain of the championship Women’s Soccer Team.
Jacinta has since developed a distinguished career across defence, intelligence and national security, working primarily within the Australian Government as well as with leading think tanks and universities. She has advised governments at pivotal moments, led major policy reforms, and is now recognised internationally as a strategist, commentator and keynote speaker. Her career has included overseas service as a civilian adviser to the Iraqi government and as a military Commander of an Australian National Contingent, and she continues to serve as a reservist in the Royal Australian Air Force. Her connection to Johns has remained strong, including more than a decade of service on the College Board.
Grounded in a strong sense of purpose, Jacinta draws inspiration from the women in her family and shares her life with her husband John, her partner in both work and adventure. Their farm, complete with energetic dogs and distinctly opinionated Cashmere goats, offers a constant reminder of balance, perspective and the importance of community.
