Tracey Berger
1990 - 1991
Intellectual property specialist Tracey Berger has built a distinguished career in trade mark law and professional services, working with clients across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. She lived at John XXIII College from 1990 to 1991 while studying at the Australian National University, where she quickly formed the friendships that have remained central to her life for more than three decades. After attending high school overseas in the United States, Japan and Hong Kong, her time at Johns provided a joyful reintroduction to Australian life and the beginning of lifelong personal and professional connections.
Tracey spent more than 25 years in private practice as a trade mark lawyer, advising clients across Australia, New Zealand, the South Pacific and Asia-Pacific. She held several senior leadership roles at Spruson & Ferguson, including Managing Director (Australia), Executive Director and Head of Trade Marks (Asia), where she played a key role in the firm’s strategic growth and its integration into the ASX-listed IPH Limited. Recognised internationally for her expertise, she is now a Hearing Officer at IP Australia, where she adjudicates complex trade mark disputes and contributes to the integrity of Australia’s intellectual property system.
Alongside her legal career, Tracey is committed to community service and currently serves as Company Secretary of the Charlie Teo Foundation, supporting governance for an organisation dedicated to advancing brain cancer research. Inspired by her father’s experience with the disease, she remains passionate about contributing to efforts to improve patient outcomes while balancing professional life with travel, skiing, hiking and time with her family.
